Because he has played so well during the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals, many are saying Roy Hibbert is one of the best Centers in the league. While that claim is premature, his play does make you wonder why he doesn’t dominate, given the height advantage he has most nights.
Dwight Howard’s former coach in Orlando, Stan Van Gundy was recently asked if he thought Hibbert was better than Dwight. Despite the falling out in Orlando, Van Gundy thought the comparison to be ridiculous.
“Come on, that one’s not close,” Van Gundy said during his weekly Thursday segment on our Open Mike morning radio show on 740 AM. “You could put that question to 30 general managers in the league — and give them the choice — and Indiana, out of loyalty, might take Hibbert although I would doubt it. The other 29 would not even hesitate. Everybody’s taking Dwight.
