While the once (and possibly still) wildly popular Tracy McGrady will arguably go down as one of the most talented scorers of our generation, the knock on the 2 time NBA scoring champion has always been that he comes up short in the postseason, a notion made true by the fact that McGrady has never won a Playoff series.
But after signing on with the Western Conference front-running San Antonio Spurs for the remainder of the season, maybe T-Mac’s luck is about to change when it comes to postseason play as he joins multiple title winners Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker in an obvious last ditch attempt at winning a ring.
McGrady last played in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks during the ’11-’12 season. He then took his talents to China, and looked like the vintage T-Mac, the one that made 7 consecutive All Star appearances during the 2000’s, averaging more than 25 ppg, 7.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, despite his team finishing with a disastrous 8-24 record.
Despite his individual success overseas, McGrady was suspended for a game for criticizing the officials and got into an altercation with an opposing player that decided to give the 7-time All Star the Mutombo finger wave after nailing a 3 pointer in his vicinity.
The timing seems perfect since The Spurs recently released veteran Stephen Jackson, clearing a roster spot for McGrady. If T-Mac wins a ring with San Antonio, does he, and his tremendous resume(19.6 ppg) get some consideration for the Hall of Fame?
