By now, the whole basketball universe is still dealing with the shock of future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant’s untimely Achilles injury from Friday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors.
If you’re like me, surely everyone thought the “Mamba” was going to walk it off and continue to lead the Lakers on their quest to secure the 8th and final Playoff spot in the Western Conference.
While the Lakers still stand a good shot of making the postseason, surely their plans of advancing past a 1st Round match-up with either San Antonio of Oklahoma City now rests squarely on the shoulders of Dwight, Pau, Metta(gulp), and Steve.
In case you missed it, Kobe isn’t taking the news of his surgery and impending rehab well as he fought back tears at a presser immediately following Friday night’s game. He then took to Twitter around 3AM Saturday morning to vent and issue a new mission statement that he will come back stronger than ever.
If anyone can come back from such a devastating injury, I’d put money on Kobe, as his determination and drive towards greatness obviously trumps players like Dominique Wilkins, Elton Brand, and Chauncey Billups, who have returned a shell of their former selves after suffering a similar injury in the past.
