Throughout the majority of the Lakers-Spurs Game 1 today, injured Lakers star Kobe Bryant was tweeting thoughts and advice for LA to anyone who was listening. As if Kobe Bryant’s tweets don’t get enough attention, a bunch of his tweets were mentioned on air by the TNT crew.
So of course reporters had to ask D’Antoni about his thoughts on Kobe’s tweeting. D’Antoni seemed less than thrilled with the advice on twitter (skip to 2:40 mark of video)…
Calling Kobe Bryant ‘a fan’ seemed a bit extreme though. Regardless of whether or not he was traveling with the team, I don’t think you could ever consider Kobe Bryant to be a ‘fan’ of the Lakers. He’s a Lakers Legend. Full stop.
Kobe had this to say to his twitter followers about Mike D’Antoni’s post-game comments:
A fan?? Lol #microphonetalk

To be honest, I can see it from both sides. Kobe is just trying to feel like part of the team, as I’m sure he’s already depressed enough being unable to help on the court. D’Antoni should be a little more sensitive to his situation than calling him ‘a fan’?
On the other hand, the Lakers hardly need public commentary from an insider during their game. And the whole situation is taking D’Antoni’s focus away from the game. Kobe should avoid anything that could be construed as a distraction to his teammates or coach. They have enough of an uphill battle ahead of them.
Kobe tried to back pedal a bit and keep things more light hearted shortly after…
@countonvic @arashmarkazi if he kept his phone on so I could call him, I wouldn’t have to tweet it LOL #imjoking #keepfocus #ontothenextone
