It’s always good to see when a starting NBA player branches out and expands his portfolio to either music or the silver screen like Shaquille O’Neal, Wilt Chamberlain, and Michael Jordan in years past, and most recently Kevin Durant, making his Hollywood debut in the movie Thunderstruck.
That’s precisely the case with New Orleans Hornets, soon to be Pelicans, rangy big man Robin Lopez who recently tweeted a photo on the set of the upcoming boxing flick starring none other than Hollywood legends Sylvester Stallone and Robert DeNiro called Grudge Match.
For those of you that forgot, DeNiro was fantastic in arguably the greatest boxing movie of all time, Raging Bull, and Stallone starred as the now iconic Philadelphia born underdog pugilist that fought for what’s right in defending America in the long running Rocky series.
The movie is set to open November 15th, and also stars comedian Kevin Hart, actress Kim Basinger, and Alan Arkin.
There’s no word yet as to how big of a roll Lopez will have in the film but word is the plot centers around the main characters, Stallone and Bobby D now in their 60’s, as longtime boxing rivals who are coaxed out of retirement for one more fight.
Maybe the title should be called Aging Bull Vs. Rocking Chair Balboa.………
Check out Lopez along with Stallone and DeNiro in the ring:
