With Foamposite popularity at an all-time high, now is as good of a time as any to chronicle the history of this beautifully designed shoe.
In 1997, the Nike Advanced Product Engineering group worked closely with marketing and other Nike designers to construct a sneaker in a new way. Eric Avar, lead designer on this project as well, had this to say:
We had it and we’d been working with it for some time and were, quite honestly, a little undecided on what to do with it
Originally designed for no particular athlete, a meeting with Penny Hardaway about the Air Penny III changed all that. Its no wonder why the Foamposite One made our list of Penny Hardaway’s 10 best sneakers worn during his NBA career.
The Air Foamposite One was, and still is, a revolutionary sneaker which influences even the most recent Nike Basketball kicks still.
