In the midst of LeBron James hoisting the Larry O’Brien Trophy for the first time, all of the drama surrounding Dwight Howard’s future and trying to decide which Dream Team is the best off all time, fans, outside of Chicago anyways, may have forgotten about a certain former MVP who tore his ACL in the first game of last spring’s postseason.
Derrick Rose had surgery to repair his left ACL on May 12th, and according to an ESPN report, his brother and manager, Reggie Rose, said Derrick’s rehab is ahead of schedule.
“”He’s walking without a (brace),” Reggie said. “He’s way ahead of schedule.”
The Bulls had the best record in the league last season despite Rose missing substantial time with a plethora of injuries. But the team was bounced from the first-round of the playoffs by the Philadelphia 76ers without their MVP on the hardwood.
Outside of worrying about Rose being able to play on opening night this October, the team is looking to overhaul their bench. While the team will reportedly likely match the offer the Houston Rockets gave Omer Asik, the team will not be picking up the options on reserves C.J. Watson and Ronnie Brewer. The team will also have to make a decision on whether or not they want to pick-up the $ 5 million option on Kyle Korver.
With or without Rose in the lineup, there will be some new faces in Chicago uniforms next season, as the Bulls hope to keep pace with the defending champion Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference.
