The Brazilian big man Fabricio de Melo of the Syracuse Orange has decided to enter the NBA Draft this year and forgo the rest of his College Basketball career. After facing issues with eligibility, he apparently weighed his options carefully, but given his family’s financial situation he decided to opt for a professional basketball career sooner rather than later.
According to Draft Express, Fab Melo has signed with an agent and will not return to Syracuse next season. They tweeted, “Fab Melo has signed with Arn Tellem, according to multiple sources, which means he obviously isn’t returning to Syracuse, as expected.”
Mike Waters of Syracuse.com spoke with sources who said he hasn’t signed with an agent officially yet, but he has made the decision to leave Syracuse for the NBA.
Fab Melo is set to go in the first round of the draft without a doubt given his size and skill set. Many 2012 mock drafts have him even going in the top half of the first round. Stay tuned for the official announcement.
