Following their embarrassing, opening day loss to the Miami Heat on Christmas Day, the early season woes continued for the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday, as they fell to the Denver Nuggets, 115-93. The defending champs have now lost their first two games of the lockout shortened season by an average of 16 points a contest.
Reigning Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki shared his thoughts on the team’s slow start to the season, courtesey of slamonline:
“We look old and slow and out of shape — a bad combination,” said Dirk Nowitzki. “I still think this team has a lot of potential. But we have to turn the corner.”
While the Mavericks still have mainstays with Nowitzki and Jason Terry, to go along with promising new additions, including Lamar Odom, Delonte West and Vince Carter, they are without Tyson Chandler and J.J. Barea, there two biggest “X” factors from last season’s championship run, who signed with New York and Minnesota, respectively this offseason.
The Mavericks will be looking to get their first win of the new season on Thursday, when they travel to Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder in a Western Conference Finals rematch.
