Former Player Oliver Miller Pleads Guilty to Assault and Gun Charges

Oliver Miller wasn’t exactly the poster boy for being physically fit when he was playing in the NBA, but he was skilled in the post and had a soft touch. It is always sad for us to see former NBA players get themselves into trouble with the law after retiring from basketball. Miller this week pleaded guilty to assault charges:

Oliver J. Miller, who played for the Phoenix Suns and other teams in the 1990s, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and carrying a handgun Tuesday in court in Anne Arundel County.

According to prosecutors, Miller and his girlfriend’s brother argued at the cookout in April and Miller later hit him repeatedly in the head with a gun. The man required 11 staples to close his wounds. [VIA]

The sentencing will take place in December, and Miller will likely face anywhere from 4-9 years in prison based on legal precedent. However his lack of a criminal record may work to his advantage to shorten the period of time needing to be served.
