Behind the Scenes of the Jordan Melo M8 Hologram Release Party

October 24, 2011 – Allen Moll

Surely superstar forward Carmelo Anthony can’t wait to show off his newer, more svelte physique and refined offensive game to the throngs of fans at Madison Square Garden, but with the entire NBA season potentially in jeopardy because of the Lockout, Knicks fans flocked to NYC’s Pier 54 on the Hudson River on Friday evening to catch a glimpse of Anthony and the official unveiling of his newest signature shoe, the Jordan Melo M8.

The event was dubbed Melo’s M8 NYC Flight Night and featured tons of celebrities, fellow NBA superstars, and many of New York’s elite to bear witness to not only Melo’s new kicks but also the much publicized state of the art light show that projected across the harbor onto an adjacent warehouse. The event began with the official Jordan Brand helicopter hovering over the harbor, followed by a diver taking the plunge into the Hudson, only to deliver the golden shoebox to Pier 54, containing the Melo M8 prototype. Real Hollywood type stuff.

Players like Melo, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Paul have been anointed as the next in line to carry on the Jordan Brand torch that began with the one-and-only Michael Jordan himself nearly two decades ago. Much of the design and details of the Melo M8‘s were formulated in NYC’s Flight Lab 159 in lower Manhattan.

The newest shoe supposedly reflects Carmelo’s personality on and off the court, showing some obvious flash and swagger on the outside, yet a calm and comfortable feel inside, meant to mirror Anthony’s demeanor off the hardwood. You can check out the entire Melo powering through the Hudson event by checking out the official website here.
