Shaq Makes His First Appearance as an Analyst

July 20, 2011 – Kevin Burke

Shaq is officially a part of the TNT broadcast crew and it was announced last week that he’ll be joining “Inside the NBA.” Sure, Shaq can be funny but it remains to be seen if his contributions will mesh with the chemistry of the crew. The NBA released their schedule for the upcoming season yesterday and Shaq made his very first appearance as an NBA analyst during the schedule release program on NBATV. He was asked to give his opinion on the Miami Heat and here was his response:

Shaq has never been afraid to speak his mind regardless of who is listening and during his playing days, he routinely took umprompted shots at players. What he said about Bosh was completely unprovoked. But it was classic Shaq. Reminds me of the time he called the Kings the “Sacramento Queens.” That type of “shock jock” analysis is why people will tune in, more so than to hear him break down basketball. I wonder if he will ever place distance between his mentality as a player and his mentality as an analyst. Probably not, and I’m sure TNT would prefer it that way. What was also interesting was the fact that he called Wade and James are perhaps the “greatest backcourt ever assembled.” LeBron is a forward, but I get his point. Very strong words.

If you’re looking for your everyday, predictable basketball talk, then you’ve come to the wrong place, because Kevin Burke of The Kevin Burke Project brings provocative, thought provoking content about basketball as only he can.
