Regardless of whether Shaq is retiring or not, with 19 years in the league and 3 different sneaker deals he’s arguably had the deepest sneaker history of any active NBA player. Though he started off as a key player in Reebok’s 90s campaigns, in 2001 he launched an affordable basketball sneaker line called Dunkman which was available through outlets like Payless. While the Dunkman brand was still in production in 2006 he inked a 5-year deal with Li-Ning. The 2010-2011 NBA season was the last year on the deal so this raises the question about if his retirement is premeditated for the man with the size 23 sneaker. Though Michael Jordan will undoubtedly go down as the one player to make the clear sole popular on sneakers, Shaquille O’Neal gave many of his early Reebok’s the ‘icy sole’ treatment.
