A few weeks ago, Shaquille O’Neal announced that he was hanging them up after 19 hard-fought, legendary seasons in the Association. Personally, that was my hope because I didn’t want to see him struggle through another injury-plagued campaign solely for the purposes of saying he played two full decades in the League.
Shaq is one of the most charismatic and engaging athletes ever so his options, now that he’s retired, are endless. But I wonder if he’s bored already. Right before the coverage for Game 6 of the Finals began on Sunday, Jimmy Kimmel Live aired on ABC. Not wanting to miss a second of the coverage, I watched the end of Kimmel so I’d catch the very beginning of Stuart Scott’s, Mike Wilbon’s, Jon Barry’s and Magic Johnson’s commentary.
As I’m watching Kimmel, they go to a piece involving Shaq. Now, it’s not unusual for the big fella to appear on shows with a scripted role. But he absolutely lets loose in the segment below. He’s a fun loving guy so you never know what he’s going to say or do. But after watching this, it left me somewhat amused, part disturbed and generally wondering if he’s bored. But as long as he remains relevant and in the spotlight, I’ll take it.
