Kobe’s New Sprite Commercial Debuts In China

May 13, 2011 – Allen Moll

As one of the NBA’s elder statesmen and world-wide hoops icon, Kobe Bryant is arguably basketball’s most marketable star. Sorry Lebron, but winning 5 World Championships will do that for a player. And just ask any former or current member of the Houston Rockets like Tracy McGrady, Steve Francis, or Ron Artest just how huge the NBA is in China with the connections brought forth by Yao Ming.

As arguably the 2nd best shooting guard of all-time, Kobe exudes star power and any and all product brands would love to have the “Black Mamba” as their pitchman. One of the few products Kobe does endorse is Sprite. The soda maker is the sponsor for the NBA’s annual Slam Dunk Contest held every All Star Weekend.

Kobe has joined with international star Jay Chou, starring in a new music video which reportedly will be part of Sprite’s advertising campaign in the Far East. Chou is a 32 year old singer, songwriter, actor, and director, who has won numerous World Music Awards and starred domestically in the recent hit action movie “The Green Lantern.”

While it’s a bit cheesy, the video is entertaining nonetheless.
