Jimmer Fredette Too Popular to Attend Class at BYU

The last few years we have seen a select few NCAA athletes who generate a little more buzz than the average collegiate star. Tim Tebow, Reggie Bush and John Wall are a few that come to mind.

After this past college basketball season, we can add Jimmer Fredette’s name to the very top of that select list.

Jimmer not only had the most unique name in college basketball this season but the Wooden Award winner also had the best game. Fredette led the country in scoring as he led BYU to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in 30 years.

However, it appears as though Jimmer’s rock star stature may be a little more crazy than we originally thought.

According to Erick Smith of USA Today, Fredette has become so popular that it was getting in the way of his work in the classroom. Due to these challenges, Jimmer has decided to finish up his coursework through online classes. Here is what Fredette’s father, Al, had to say about his son’s decision:

“It was getting too disruptive,” Al Fredette told The Post-Star of Glens Falls, N.Y.. “He can’t go anywhere in Provo without being recognized.”

Besides deciding to finish up his school work in a more comfortable setting, Fredette has also been focusing on finding an agent before the draft this June.

During this year’s NCAA tournament, Fredette’s parents got a taste of just how hot of a commodity their son has become. Al Fredette had this to say about the various agents at this year’s tournament games.

“During the tournament, we would have agents surround us before the game and at halftime”

While Fredette’s future as an NBA player is a huge mystery, the impression he has left on college basketball and sports in general is certainly not.

Joshua Sexton is a lifelong basketball fanatic, who watches as many games as possible. In addition, He has played and coached the game at the high school level. He has recently started writing about the game of basketball.
