University of Florida forward Chandler Parsons has made a name for himself across the country as a big time player capable of coming up clutch when the game is on the line like last season when he nailed 2 game winning shots within a 2 week span.
He has teamed with Vernon Macklin and Alex Tyus, giving coach Billy Donovan as vaunted a front-court as any in the nation. The front-court trio has helped the Gators get their mojo back this season, helping to lead the club to an impressive 17-5 record and a very respectable 6-2 SEC mark. The 6’10 and 235 lbs Parsons has even garnered some attention from NBA scouts beacuse of his impressive all around play(10.4 ppg, 7.4 reb, 3.6 ast) this season.
Just last week, Parsons scored 9 points in a decisive 2nd overtime against SEC rival Georgia in which teammate Erving Walker sank a game tieying jumper to force overtime, eventually won by the Gators. Chandler was dominating down the stretch, sinking a late trey and grabbing a team high 12 boards to secure a victory.
While his outstanding play deserves both praise and admiration, his vaunted effort wasn’t without some measure of torture. After sinking that all important 3 point dagger late, teammate Vernon Macklin decided to whip Parsons with a towel in celebration as he ran down the sideline, unfortunately nailing the hero in the, shall we say………….the twig and berries!
We feel your pain Chandler……
