During the half-time show of the Suns-Wolves game last night the analysts were raving about how how the Suns had dropped 79 points in one half. Little did they know they were about to keep a similar pace throughout the second half as well and drop 73 in the next two quarters.
Everyone knows the Phoenix Suns are a lethal offensive force, and have been for many years now. But that break neck pace is even an amazing feat for them to sustain for four quarters. 152 points is a season high in the NBA obviously, and considering it was a blowout, all of those points were scored in regulation.
Jason Richardson scored 27 points and Amare Stoudemire 25, then the two sat with the rest of the Phoenix starters while the Suns’ reserves finished off a 152-114 rout of Minnesota on Monday night in the highest-scoring game by an NBA team this season.
Phoenix sent the Timberwolves to their 10th straight loss and 16th in the last 17 games.
The Suns, with eight players in double figures, shot 56 percent and 15 of 31 from three-point range to win their ninth in 12 games.{SF Gate}
Some fans who didn’t watch the game will probably argue that the Suns should have taken their foot off the pedal once the game was clearly out of reach for the Wolves. But knowing the Suns and their history of letting teams back into games after acquiring a big lead, that’s really not in the cards for them. Moreover, they actually did take their foot off the pedal, that’s the scary thing about the output of 152 points. Their starters only played an average of 25 minutes a piece during the game.
Their bench combined for a whopping 62 of the 152 points. That’s a truly amazing number. Talk about depth. To give you a little flavor of what i’m talking about, Lou Amundson scored a career high 20 points off the bench in the win.
