I just read the news that Stephon Marbury was the subject of a fairly elaborate hoax from a couple of guys claiming to be Suisse Bankers who wanted to offer him a hefty endorsement deal and potential contract with the Real Madrid basketball club. Marbury was all over that like a fat kid on a smartie!
Can you really blame the guy though after being banished from his NBA team, mocked league wide by players, coaches, GM’s, and broadcasters, and being given very little help by the player’s union? Of course Marbury would jump at the chance to give a ‘screw you’ to the NBA and head overseas for a hefty $12 million endorsement deal and surely a hefty playing contract from Real Madrid.
Only there wasn’t any such deal. Marbury was the victim of an elaborate scam, prank, trick, joke, or whatever you’d like to call it. I like to think of it as “Punk’d – European Style”!
But apparently Marbury isn’t taking this too lightly. Multiple articles are claiming that Marbury is considering turning over all the contact information he has to police. But what laws exactly did these gentleman break? Is there a prank call law? Maybe there is, i’m no lawyer but if that’s the case i’ll certainly think twice next time i’ve had one too many drinks and pick up that telephone to call a random number and sing the Cheers theme song on their answering machine!
At least you’re being a good sport about it Marbury….hehe
