NC State’s Ryan Harrow Pulls a “Rondo” on Defender

December 9, 2010 – Allen Moll

Surely every Wolfpack fan is excited to have highly touted freshman CJ Leslie on campus this season as he has quite a resume as a highlight reel dunker in high school. But at the same time, another elite level frosh, point guard Ryan Harrow, is already making a name for himself in this early part of the season by showcasing some excellent scoring prowess(10.8 ppg) to go along with some sweet ball-handling skills.

While another member of NC State’s fabulous freshmen trio Lorenzo Brown, currently leads the club in scoring(12.6 ppg) and assists(4.2 ast), Harrow ranks 2nd in dime droppers(3.6), while logging more minutes at the point than incumbent starter Javier Gonzalez.

Coming out of high school(#19 in Class of ‘10), the 6‘0 and 160 lb Harrow had the reputation for putting on a show as an elite level scoring floor general out of Marietta, Georgia. Ryan compares favorably skill wise with that of fellow Class of ‘10 point guards Cory Joseph at Texas and Joe Jackson at Memphis. Because of his innate ability to score the rock at such a small size, many have even touted him as the next Allen Iverson. While at this point that may be a stretch, Ryan is doing his best to learn the college game and help the Pack make it back to the NCAA Tournament in 2011.

Most young point guards tend to model themselves after a current NBA floor general and for Harrow that player is obviously the Boston Celtics’ Rajon Rondo. Never was this more apparent when during a game against Tennessee Tech when Ryan used Rondo’s now famous “Round the World” move to not only fake out the defender but the cameraman as well.
