We live in a world driven by social media and an insatiable desire for sports content around the clock. Sports fanatics are scanning every blog they can to soak in as much knowledge as they can about their favorite sport, team or player. This sort of coverage can lead to hyper-focused coverage of one team, such is the whole basis of SB Nation, and at times even one player…

USA Today has decided to try and capitalize on all of the hype and hysteria surrounding Lakers rookie point guard Lonzo Ball with their own “Lonzo Wire” page on their website dedicated solely to news and updates about Lonzo and let’s be honest LaVar Ball.

Feast your eyes on Lonzo Wire…

That is right follks, we live in a world where a player who has never even played a regular season game in the NBA has a page dedicated entirely to them on a major news and professional sports website.

Welcome to 2017 and the age of social media.

This isn’t the first time that a major site has dedicated a full page to one player, ESPN launched and briefly maintained a “Nothin But Steph” page on their website near the end of the 2015-16 NBA season as Curry was on the cusp of his second straight league MVP trophy and one of the better seasons in NBA history…

Ball has the most hype and pressure of any rookie entering the NBA since LeBron James in 2003 after he was dubbed “The Chosen One” as a Sophomore in high school. The Lakers are hoping that Lonzo can replicate LeBron’s success and that maybe LeBron will decide to team up with him next summer.

It seems the future of the Lakers franchise rests on Lonzo’s debut season. Let’s see if the “Lonzo Wire” stories are mostly positive this season and if Lonzo is able to make more news than his father.
