Jeremy Lin, Like Every Other Hornets Free Agent, Wants to Stay in Charlotte

Jeremy Lin is just like every other Charlotte Hornets free agent.

In that he doesn’t want to leave Charlotte.

Per Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer:

Charlotte Hornets guard Jeremy Lin, who can opt out of next season on his contract, says he’d very much like to re-sign with the franchise this summer.

“I would love to,” Lin said Monday. “I don’t like moving every year, I don’t like packing and unpacking boxes. So we’ll see. But I’m definitely interested in coming back.”

“This is the most fun I’ve had in my six years” in the NBA, Lin said. “Being around a great group of guys and a coaching staff that really cares. I’ve learned so much about the game of basketball, particularly at the defensive end.”

Lin is going to opt out of the last year of his deal. He emerged as a strong sixth and seventh man in Charlotte, and now would be the time to capitalize on his market value.

But it’s not entirely clear what that value will be. He plays an incredibly deep position, one with very few starting vacancies. So his price tag should be inherently low, even with the salary cap set to explode. That bodes well for the Hornets, since they have other free agents, like Nicolas Batum, Courtney Lee, Marvin Williams and Al Jefferson, to worry about.

It also bodes well for Lin, in the sense that he wants to stay in Charlotte, and there’s a smaller chance he prices himself out of where he wants to be.
