Grizzlies Become 5th Team in NBA History to Lose by More Than 60 Points

The end of the 2017-28 season can’t come fast enough for the Memphis Grizzlies.

A team that started the season 5-1 has dealt with a rash of injuries and has gone to a youth movement and has only won 14 of their last 66 games, including a 19-game losing streak that ended last weekend.

One would think the 19 game losing streak was the rock bottom for this team, but it wasn’t, Thursday night’s game against the Charlotte Hornets was.

The Memphis Grizzlies were dominated from the beginning and lost 140-79. Let that sink in for a moment.

The Grizzlies became the 5th team in NBA history to lose a game by 60 or more points.

From Landofbasketball.com:

68 148 -80 Cleveland Cavaliers vs Miami Heat 1991-92 (RS) / Dec 17, 1991
65 124 -59 Indiana Pacers vs Portland Trail Blazers 1997-98 (RS) / Feb 27, 1998
63 162 -99 Los Angeles Lakers vs Golden State Warriors 1971-72 (RS) / Mar 19, 1972
62 153 -91 Golden State Warriors vs Sacramento Kings 1991-92 (RS) / Nov 2, 1991
62 162 -100 Syracuse Nationals vs New York Knicks 1960-61 (RS) / Dec 25, 1960

61 140 -79 Charlotte Hornets vs Memphis Grizzlies 2017-18 (RS) / Mar 22, 2018

The Grizzlies are clearly doing what they can to put themselves in a position to lose and gain the highest lottery odds but this reflects poorly on the franchise and the league.

Kemba Walker led the charge, scoring 46 points in three quarters and tying a Hornets franchise-record with 10 made three-pointers.

The Grizzlies will be rewarded with their futility with a stud in the 2018 NBA Draft, but the residual affects of this ugly season with leave a negative mark on the franchise, at least in the short term.
