Rajon Rondo has held the reputation of being one of the more ornery and opinionated (at times) players in the NBA.
His like or dislike for certain teammates and coaches over the years has been made very public: Kendrick Perkins, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett = like, Rick Carlisle, Ray Allen = dislike.
Rondo is very defensive about his true brothers from the last era of Celtics greatness and is always willing to speak out in their favor. He is doing so again today, at the expense of fellow former Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas.
Rajon Rondo was irked to hear that the Celtics would honor Isaiah Thomas on any night. "What has he done?” Rondo asked. Told that he led the Celtics to the conference finals last year, Rondo remarked, “Oh, that’s what we celebrate around here?”

He also managed to get a random dig in at the Phoenix Suns…
More Rondo on IT: “This is the Boston Celtics. This isn’t the Phoenix Suns, no disrespect to any other organization, but you don’t hang conference titles. Do we hang going to the conference finals? What do we hang here?”
Title banners, Rondo was told.
“OK, cool,” Rondo said.— Bill Doyle (@BillDoyle15) January 17, 2018
While I can understand where Rondo is going with this, Thomas wasn’t in Boston for long and the team never won a title or made an NBA Finals appearance with him there, there is a discernible difference between a jersey retirement and a short tribute video for a returning player that did great things in a Celtics uniform. Thomas is worthy of that in Boston, being an All-NBA performer and a fan favorite. Rondo doesn’t come off very well in the wake of these comments and they will rub Thomas, the Suns organization and many others the wrong way.
I doubt he cares though.
