After the Knicks comeback victory at home against the Utah Jazz Wednesday night, they are now 8-6 on the season and have been 8-3 since an 0-3 start.
They seem much more in tune with one another, quicker, more athletic and better on both ends by revolving their offense around their resident unicorn Kristaps Porzingis.
They are also praising Jeff Hornacek for his uptempo offense system for their success, a system he wasn’t fully able to run last season when a certain hall of fame coach was leading the organization and dictating that they run a certain dated offense…
Here is what Porzingis told Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports:
“This year you can feel that Jeff has more, he’s running his own stuff without anybody coming in and telling him what to do or how to do it, so I think from the top down you can feel that there’s more confidence in what we’re doing. It’s a better feeling this way.”
Tim Hardaway Jr. is talking about the difference in the locker room and the amount of communication on the court in this quote to Marc Berman of the New York Post…
“It’s a full 180,’’ Hardaway said. “It’s great. A lot of guys are taking each possession in practice very serious. We’re building our game. We’re building a culture here. When we step in this practice, we are all ears and minds are open. Everyone is giving their input and everyone is locked in on both ends of the floor.”
It is amazing what maximizing your talent by running a 2017 style NBA offense can do for you, especially when you move on from your disgruntled veteran and fully unleash your budding superstar in Porzingis.
The Knicks are on the cusp of having a top 10 offense, have a much improved defense and could be competing for a shot to play playoff basketball this season, a welcome sight for tortured Knicks fans.
