Ignorance is bliss.
That’s Kristaps Porzingis’ story, and he’s sticking to it months later.
With the New York Knicks set to face the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday, The Big Apple’s superstar is, naturally, being pressed about his run-in with, um, hackers this past May, who tweeted the following from his account:
Tweeted. Then deleted. ? pic.twitter.com/IjwPrcNfmD

Porzingis, of course, paved the path for Eric Bledsoe, denying his not-so-subtle social-media trade request. He even screenshotted his favorite emojis as proof that he’d been violated:
I was hacked last night and a post was made from my account. I have alerted twitter and they are looking into the incident.

I would never tweet something like that. I dont even use that emoji smiley face. Cmon B ??? pic.twitter.com/EXmtej5qzn

If you’re asking me, I have a hard time believing there exists a Clippers fan so devout that they would hack Porzingis’ Twitter just to then tweet about their favorite team. There’s so much more you can do if you gain access to an athlete’s Twitter account. Why is “LA Clippers” your go to post?
It seems more likely that Porzingis, then 21, may have been joking around with his friends or trying to impress people in his company and accidentally hit send. Again: I don’t know. None of us do. Not for sure. And Porzingis, for his part, still maintains that he was hacked, per the New York Post‘s Fred Kerber:
“I had no idea. I wish I had the answer. I was in Barcelona at that moment and one of my friends was like, ‘Yo, did you just tweet that?’” Porzingis said. “I was like, ‘It’s fake.’ Then, ‘Hold up, let me check on Twitter for sure. I checked Twitter and nothing was on Twitter because it was already deleted. Then I put in search, Porzingis, and that’s when everything showed up. I had no idea at all. I had both phones with me. Still until this day it’s a mystery what that was.”
On the bright side, even if Porzingis was accidentally, or deliberately, showcasing his disdain for being a member of the Knicks at the time, he sure seems to be enjoying his role as the No. 1 option this season. This whole thing feels like a non-issue now, months later, no matter what actually happened.
