So, um, Kristaps Porzingis might be 7’5″ now, according to his own words.
Per the New York Post‘s Marc Berman:
Doctors told him he may have to “put more pressure on another part of the body.’’ Porzingis said he has learned to work a lot on correct “posture.’’
“I’m 7-3, maybe 7-5, I don’t know,’’ said Porzingis, who has brought his own personal physio therapist from Latvia to New York for the season. “I have to do all the preventative stuff.’’
Porzingis is discussing his recovery from a hip injury that has kept him on the sidelines in recent days. The New York Knicks, per Berman, don’t consider it a serious issue, but it’s enough for them to most likely shut him out of their next preseason.
But, yeah, about that 7’5″ crack: Is Porzingis being serious? Like, is this a joke? Could the 7’3″ skyscraper actually be 7’5″? Or is he just yanking our chain?
These growth spurts typically come out, a la Giannis Antetokounmpo, unless the team, for some reason, is trying to keep them under wraps. Perhaps this is one of those situations. People are already uneasy about Porzingis’ injury history, and the idea of 7’5″ power forward probably won’t quash their fears.
Again: Maybe this isn’t true. The comment is so offhanded we have no idea. But if it is true, only one reaction suits the matter: Holy damn.
