If John Wall Wasn’t an NBA All-Star, He’d Be a Professional Bowler (Maybe)

John Wall

John Wall doesn’t need basketball.

Sure, it’s made him more than $70 million to date, on the court. But he’s a multisport athlete—the extra sport being bowling.

Speaking with CSN’s Chris Miller (via CSN Mid-Atlantic’s Tyler Byrum), Wall said that his primary hobby is bowling, and that he believes he could go pro if he put some effort into it:

Weeks into the off-season, Wall continues to put in work already preparing for the next year. He continues to be on the grind so much that CSN’s, Chris Miller suggested in a sit-down interview, that the Wizard’s All-Star guard needs to find a hobby.

Wall’s response: “my hobby is bowling, that’s my getaway.”

Revealing that he bowls three to four times a week, Wall’s skills on the lane are mightily impressive. Since playing as a kid, he is both a backhanded bowler and ambidextrous when it comes to a bowling ball.

On being asked if he could be a professional bowler, “if I put the work in, totally,” Wall said. ” I average like 165 without putting the work into it.”

I am so here for this—for John Wall, professional bowler.

Who needs the NBA, and All-Star appearances, and playoff berths, and a Hall of Fame trajectory, when you have a weighted ball, 60 feet of synthetic wood and 10 pins? Now that’s a career.

No, we’re not mocking actual pro bowlers here. I mean, have you bowled lately? Without bumpers? It’s ridiculously hard. So much precision is involved, and the slightest deviation from the perfect form lands you in the gutter. Plus, your fingers begin to hurt if you do it a lot. I’ve always wondered how bowlers avoid that pain. My assumption is they know what they’re doing.

Anywho, Wall should stick with bowling as a hobby. Professional basketball is far more lucrative, and it just so happens he’s pretty good at it.

Now, if only he could get the Washington Wizards to fix their bench, he’d really be in business.
