Suns Use Youngest Starting Line-Up in NBA History

There is no question that at this point of the season, the Phoenix Suns have one mission: securing as many ping pong balls as possible. Losers of nine of their last 10 and having already shut down Eric Bledsoe, Tyson Chandler and Brandon Knight for the season (Knight may be for other reasons) the Suns are letting their youth movement fully take hold with players like Devin Booker, Tyler Ulis, Marquese Chriss and Alan Williams.

For their game with the Brooklyn Nets a few days ago they made NBA history, trotting out the youngest starting lineup in NBA history.

As the tweet states, the average age of their lineup was 21 years and 14 days, pretty insane. If fellow rookie and youngest player in the NBA, 19-year-old Dragan Bender was healthy and in place of Alex Len their average age would have been no more than 20.

To put that in perspective, out of the 16 teams playing in the Sweet 16 this weekend in the NCAA Tournament, 15 of which have an average older age for their roster than the Suns starting line-up, only Purdue was younger.

That is mind-blowing.

While the results weren’t that encouraging, a 28 point loss to the Brooklyn Nets, it is clear that the Suns are trying to put the pieces in place to have a very bright future in a few years.
