Kevin Durant’s arrival in Golden State sparked a mass exodus in order to make room for him. The main guy who had to depart was Harrison Barnes, who played the small forward position for the Warriors that Kevin Durant will now take over for.
Barnes played a valuable role for a championship squad and a 73-win team. But he has barely been talked about since signing a max deal with the Dallas Mavericks. It doesn’t sound like he has any hard feelings towards the Warriors, but maybe he feels just a wee bit slighted.
It took coach Steve Kerr to go off script and interrupt the end of Durant’s introductory news conference, thanking the departed Warriors, for Barnes to be remembered.
“I guess I died,” Barnes said with a shoulder shrug, before breaking into a smile. He then explained why he was prepared for his departure.
“Dwight trade rumors. Kevin Love trade rumors. Kevin Durant … oh, that one happened. There’s been a few instances where you consider what might happen. I was just more so glad to be there as long as I was.”
