Being in his 19th season, Kobe Bryant has racked up on signature sneakers with the two biggest sportswear brands.
These days a lot of sneaker colorways draw their inspiration from some far-fetched story, but it is said to be different for the Nike Kobe X. The ‘5 AM Flight’ pair takes its nickname from this time in August 2013 when Kobe Bryant jumped from a 40-foot divingboard into a pool at 5 in the morning to help get over his fear of heights. The blue is for the pool’s water.
Cushioning on the Kobe X features a new Zoom Air capsule shape and Lunarlon foam with design inspiration from Nike Free (the flexable sole) technology for a combination of a soft & flexible ride. One of the understated design cues is the choice to make the entire midsole (not just the bottom/outsole) translucent to show off the tech.
The ‘5 AM Flight’ Nike Kobe X releases on February 7th for $180.
