September 10, 2008 – Dr. Dime
Yesterday my boy Dr. Anklesnap had a post about MJ’s greatest old school ‘Air Jordan’ commercials. The day before that my boy Dr. J-Water had a post about Wayne Clark with the mad hops, with as much as a 51 inch vertical leap. Being a bit vertically challenged myself compared to Anklesnap and J-Water, I gotta give the little guys in the NBA some love! It was nice to see Nate Robinson win the dunk contest in 2006 at only 5’9″ tall. However, after modern dunk contest rules allowed him to have repeated attempts at one of his final dunks many believe he actually should have lost to the fan favorite Andre Iguodala, who did some great innovative dunks.
With that being said, the greatest little man dunker of all time is most definitely still Spud Webb. To date he is still the shortest man to ever enter the NBA dunk contest at only 5’7″ tall. Entering the contest at the time was supposed to be just a media gimmick to bring some added attention to the contest. Everyone knew Spud had great ups for his size, but no one really believed he had a chance to win. But in 1986 The Atlanta Hawks point guard beat the heavy favorite and coincidentally his teammate, Dominique Wilkins in a close battle.
What do you fella’s think? Spud Webb the greatest little man dunker of all time?
