Charles Barkley is nothing if not an entertaining and mesmerizing face of a franchise or an NBA broadcast crew and one would assume he would be the same as the face of a team’s front office.
But would he be as good at it?
According to him we could have had the chance to find out as Barkley thought he was going to get chosen for the Orlando Magic’s opening at the general manager position in 2017.

Barkley has always been about as anti-analytics as it gets, so you would assume he would opt for a more traditional roster construction built around front court players and a roster that wouldn’t be as reliable on the three ball as the rest of the league, but it is hard to know for sure.
As much as I love Barkley and as much as it really is unfair to judge someone’s capability for a position before they have had an opportunity, I don’t think Chuck would be a great choice as a general manager and the Magic likely came to the same conclusion.
Plus we still get to enjoy him on Inside the NBA on a nightly basis.
