If there is one thing you need to know about veteran players in the NBA it is that they love Kendrick Perkins.

Despite the fact that his usefulness on an NBA court probably ended sometime around 2011, Perkins managed to hang around in the NBA into the 2015-16 season with the New Orleans Pelicans. He was viewed as a highly regarded locker room player by the Boston Celtics for years through the big three era, a mentor for Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook as they blossomed in OKC, and was sought out by LeBron James to join the Cavaliers for the stretch run in 2015.

Now possibly to appease LeBron James and bring even more veteran leadership and toughness to their locker room, the Cavaliers have signed Kendrick Perkins.

As you can see, he is photographed here working out with the team and was officially signed Thursday evening.

The Cavaliers now have 18 players signed and only 15 will make the final roster, so at the expense of cutting a young guy without a guaranteed contract like Kay Felder or Walter Tavares, it seems unlikely that Perkins actually makes the Cavs roster this season.

Never say never though, because despite the fact that his NBA skill set was always relatively low and the fact that he doesn’t fit today’s NBA (and he snarls on the court at all times) Perkins is one of the more beloved locker room guys of the past decade of the NBA and everybody on those Celtics and Thunder teams swear by him.

Crazier things happen everyday.
