At the tender age of 39, Dirk Nowitzki is still building upon his 1st ballot hall of fame NBA career and moving his way up the all time ranks.
He is currently 6th in NBA history in scoring with more than 31,000 points and he moved to 8th on the all-time field goals list over the weekend.

While he is definitely a defensive liability at this point, he still has the silky smooth shot and ability to get his shot off in a variety of ways and is a huge part of the Mavericks offense for the 20th straight season, insane.’
Dirk passed Elvin Hayes for 8th on the all-time list.
Here is the all-time list:
1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 15,837
2. Karl Malone 13,528
3. Wilt Chamberlain 12,681
4. Michael Jordan 12,192
5. Kobe Bryant 11,719
6. Shaquille O’Neal 11,330
7. LeBron James 11,059
8. Dirk Nowitzki 10,980
If he decides to play next season and plays 80 more games in his career in total and averages 4.6 field goals made per game in that time period as he has this season, he would end up passing Shaquille O’Neal for what would be 7th on the all-time list when he retires (LeBron will have already moved into 6th).
There is no telling if we are seeing the final 20 games of the greatest European player in NBA history, but we need to appreciate his greatness while we can.
