After suffering through injury issues the last few seasons, DeMarre Carroll is healthy again and playing a big role for a slightly better than anticipated Nets team.
As a versatile defender who can effectively guard a 3 or 4 and provide some scoring and spacing, Carroll is the perfect veteran piece to add to a team in search of depth heading into the home stretch of the NBA season.
According to his agent Mark Bartlestein and as reported in the New York Post, several teams are interested in acquiring him before Thursday’s trade deadline.
While a report coming from an agent directly and not a source definitely invites some skepticism, Carroll definitely feels like the kind of player teams would covet to give them more depth.
One thing that may give teams pause on dealing for Carroll is the final year and $15.8 million of the four year contract he signed with the Raptors in 2015 that is owed to him next season though.
That is a lot to invest in a guy for another year, especially considering most playoff contenders that would be interested in acquiring him likely have little to no cap space to work with at the moment.
There is still a chance he is moved by Thursday’s deadline though, Portland could be a fit for Evan Turner if they are willing to give up a pick to Brooklyn as part of the deal.
