LeBron James has invited Derrick Rose to work out with him in Las Vegas. Whatever. The two are teammates now. James probably wants to make sure both of Rose’s knees are attached. This happens.
But Eric Bledsoe is already in Vegas working out beside James, which is something I’m sure no one will read into, right?
From ESPN.com’s Chris Haynes:
LeBron James invited new teammate Derrick Rose to join him for workouts in Las Vegas this week, and the invitation was accepted, league sources told ESPN. . . .
Phoenix Suns guard Eric Bledsoe, who has been linked to trade talks for disgruntled Cavs star Kyrie Irving, is also among the players working out with James in Las Vegas, sources say.
James sold Rose on the idea of coming to Cleveland for a new beginning and a chance to compete for an NBA title. This week’s workout should help expedite the on-court chemistry that tends to occur with new teammates during training camp in late September.
Some part of you wants to believe James’ choice of workout buddies foreshadows something, anything. Admit it. Bledsoe is among the most popular inclusions in Kyrie Irving trade hypotheticals. Is James recruiting him to force a move to the Cavaliers? Is he buttering him up for an inevitable deal, going as far to tell him he’s better than Irving?
Probably not.
Bledsoe and James share an agent, and they’ve been buddies or at least friendly acquaintances for some time. Phoenix’s point guard has, after all, been deemed mini-LeBron. And it only makes sense that mini-LeBron would spend part of the offseason putting in work with actual LeBron.
If the possibility of them playing together next season comes up during drills, well, then so be it.
