In a league where healthy star players occasionally rest, causing league commissioner Adam Silver to send a memo to teams, we do have some key guys who are always out there. Ironically, the two guys who are leading the MVP race have played in every game this season. That’s right, James Harden and Russell Westbrook have not sat out this year. Credit health and heart.
Harden feels as if that should matter when it comes to MVP voting. The point he brings up is sort of moot, because Westbrook is probably leading the discussion, and LeBron and Kawhi (the likely 3rd and 4th place finishers) have sat out. But what this does highlight is the fact that not all stars take rests in the NBA.
“Yeah, because you’re not leaving your teammates out there to dry, ” Harden said Tuesday morning, before the Rockets’ game against the Warriors. “For me, I worry about always having my teammates’ back and always being out there….
“I’m going to have [my teammates’] back and they know that they have mine as well,” said Harden, who is second in the league in points and first in assists. “For the coaching staff and the fans, especially here in Houston, the front office, I’m here to play.”
