NBA Trade Deadline 2017 Round-Up

trade

Weeks and months of intense trade chatter came to ahead Thursday afternoon as the 2017 NBA trade deadline has come and passed.

While All-Star weekend had a blockbuster conclusion as the host city acquired one of the 10 most talented and productive players in the game in DeMarcus Cousins, the final two days before the deadline have proven to be a lot of bluster but not a lot of substance.

Carmelo Anthony is still a Knick, Paul George is still a Pacer, Jimmy Butler is still with the Bulls and almost every second tier trade target including your Reggie Jackson’s, Brook Lopez’s and Ricky Rubio’s have stayed put as well. This year’s lack of movement or rumored deals coming to fruition really puts the “dead” in deadline.

Here is a round-up on every deal that went down on deadline day…

76ers Trade Nerlens Noel to the Mavericks for Andrew Bogut, Justin Anderson and a top 18 protected 2017 1st round pick

The Mavericks get their center of the future that will infuse some much needed athleticism, rim protection and youthful energy, while the 76ers get what will amount to two 2nd round picks, Andrew Bogut and Justin Anderson. Bogut will be bought out and pursued by multiple contenders, and Justin Anderson is a sneaky good pick up for a 76ers team that could use his scoring ability and soft touch to compliment his sturdy frame.

Bulls Trade Taj Gibson, Doug McDermott and a 2018 2nd Round Pick to the Thunder for Cameron Payne, Joffrey Lauvergne and Anthony Morrow

Oklahoma City gets another shooter which it sorely needs in McDermott (so does Chicago) and a tough, veteran presence down low to help with their playoff run and make them an even better rebounding team and more physical. The Bulls add a 22-year-old point guard in Payne who has some potential and a shooter in Lauvergne. Honestly this was a steal for the Thunder and an awful deal for a Bulls team that doesn’t seem to have any direction.

Suns Trade P.J. Tucker to Raptors for 2017 2nd Round Pick, 2018 Second Round Pick and Jared Sullinger

This is an incredible trade for Toronto as they get one of the 10 best wing defenders in the league, something they sorely needed, while the Suns gain little value for a player they more than likely wouldn’t have re-signed anyway. Tucker should have garnered a first round pick, but the fact that he couldn’t means the Suns should have just held on to him. Don’t expect Sullinger to be a Sun beyond this season.

Here is a listing of the other trades that took place before Thursday’s deadline:

Hawks Trade Mike Scott to the Suns for Cash Considerations

Rockets Trade Tyler Ennis to Lakers for Marcelo Huertas

Rockets Trade K.J. McDaniels to the Nets for 2nd Round Pick

Bucks Trade Roy Hibbert to the Nuggets for Conditional 2nd Round Pick, Trade Exception

These deals were basically all to clear cap space for some teams like the Rockets and help the Suns not the cap floor.

So concludes one of the most, if not the most, uneventful NBA trade deadlines days in NBA history.
