Carmelo Anthony Will Not Waive No Trade Clause

In spite of the New York Knicks’ recent struggles, losers of nine of their last 11 games and sitting in 10th place in the eastern conference, Carmelo Anthony has reiterated that he has no desire to jump ship.

Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders is reporting that Melo is unwilling to green-light any potential trade from the New York Knicks, even with their current struggles.

Melo of course had a no-trade clause worked into his contract when he re-signed with the Knicks in the 2014 off-season and the clause may be the biggest reason why he is still in a Knicks uniform today.

Interestingly enough part of the contract minutia details that Anthony would get an over $10 million bonus if he were to waive the clause to be traded today. That bonus will continue to decrease by just over $21,000 per day over the life of the contract.

You would think Melo would want a fresh start and maybe a chance to be a big contributor for a team with greater title aspirations, but he is happy living in New York and has noted numerous times that championships don’t define his legacy.

I mean, look at his Twitter banner for proof of this mindset…

The Knicks would be better suited to deal Melo for some assets while he still holds value in the market and really focus on a rebuild centered around Kristaps Porzingis, but it appears as though that will not be a possibility for the next few years as they continue to toil away at a chance at NBA relevance with an aging Melo and a group of NBA re-treads that have seen their best days.
