Dwyane Wade Won’t Completely Rule Out Returning to the Miami Heat One Day

Dwyane Wade is already thinking about reuniting with the Miami Heat.

Okay, that’s not entirely true, or even partially true. Rohan Nadkarni of Sports Illustrated asked him a question, and Wade (h/t CBS Sorts) answered:

RN: Will you ever play another game for the Miami Heat?

Wade: I don’t know. I never thought I would not be there. At this point in my career, I’ve been asked that, and it’s not a focus of mine. I’m happy where I am. I gave Miami everything I had for 13 years. The years I have left, hopefully I can give as much to Chicago. You never know what the future holds so you never want to say yes or no. Anything is possible. But, I’m cool right now. I’m good.

None of this should be particularly surprising. Wade spent 13 years with the Heat; he’s only been a member of the Chicago Bulls for a little more than three months. He will always have ties to Miami, no doubt retiring as a Heatle when the time comes.

There was also nothing to be gained by lampooning the Heat and ruling out the possibility. Even if he has no intention of returning to them after the way they’ve handled his contracts—not to mention the mercurial way in which they’ve handled the Chris Bosh situation—there’s no point in voicing it.

Anyway, this isn’t really something to think about. If Wade does return to Miami, it’s beyond unlikely it happens anytime soon. He is owed a boatload of money from the Bulls next season and won’t soon spurn that to take a discount for a suddenly rebuilding Heat squad—not unless the banana boat crew is coming with him.
