This Kevin Durant versus Russell Westbrook thing isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. And we’re happy about that because we’re here for all of it. The verbal shots that have been traded between the two since Durant left OKC for Golden State seem to largely be initiated by Durant. In thos situations, Russell returns serve. Although, Westbrook did say last week that he’s done talking about KD.
Durant is being featured in Rolling Stone this week, where he opened up about his time in OKC, his decision to leave for Golden State and his relationship with Westbrook. Per Durant, he and Russell were merely “work friends.” That’s not necessarily a shot at Russ, but rather simply a matter of fact. Still interesting, nonetheless.
As close as people presumed he and Westbrook had been, they were never much more than work friends, he says. “We had our own cliques that we hung with on the road. Russell had his guys, I had mine. It was never a bad thing. Just how it was.”
