Paul George: I Want to be the MVP this Year

paul george

The year before Paul George broke his leg, he was playing the best basketball of his young career. In fact, the Pacers began that season really strong and George looked like an early MVP candidate. But then both he and the team came back to earth a bit. He was understandably tentative on the court when he returned from injury, but if you watched him last season and during the Olympics, he back to his old tricks.

Paul sounds incredibly eager to prove to people that he’s back. He has his heights set on MVP this year. Every NBA player would like that, but when they actually say it, it means something different. It can be viewed as a selfish proclamation to some, but in his case you understand. In order to George to even be considered, the Pacers will need to overachieve and at least finish in the top 3 in the East.

I want to be MVP. I definitely want to be the MVP this year. It’s tough, as always. It would be a challenge, but with coach Nate and the guys that I got here, I’m in position to move into that spot as long as I remain being me, being a leader, being aggressive and wanting that. It’s not mine for the taking. I got to go get it. And this is my year to go get it.
