Camp hasn’t even opened up yet, but you already get the feeling in Philly that Ben Simmons will be asked to do a whole lot for the Sixers right out the gate. Based on what he showed in Summer League, he’s going to be a huge asset and will present matchup problems for the opposition.
Perhaps he’s already feeling the load he’ll eventually have to shoulder because Simmons says he has gained a lot of muscle since entering the NBA. The transition from college to the League can be a great deal to endure physically, and he has taken measures to handle that. Simmons says he now weighs 250 pounds, which is up from 217 when he was still at LSU.
“I am a lot stronger now than I was in college and it will help me take hits and bumps,” Simmons said Monday at the team’s new practice facility in Camden. “When I started [at LSU], I was about 217 and now I’m about 250, so I gained a lot of weight.”
