When Timofey Mozgov arrived in Cleveland last year, his presence was largely thought to be the missing piece to a Cavs championship run. That may very well have been the case if the Cavs had not become decimated with injuries in the playoffs.
But this season, we’ve seen David Blatt go with a smaller lineup in games. That means Mozgov’s minutes have been reduced, as well as his value. This has led to teams reaching out to Cleveland, inquiring about the 7-footer’s services.
While the Cavaliers have expressed no interest in moving Mozgov, the 7-foot-1 center’s loss of his starting job, the franchise’s NBA-high payroll and his looming free agency could ultimately persuade Cleveland to make a deal. The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 18.
