Steph Curry is competing with himself as the best long range shooter of all-time

Steph Curry

Through 19 games in the 2015-16 NBA season Steph Curry has made 94 three point field goals (good for just under five a game) while shooting an otherworldly 45% from downtown.

Here are some crazy numbers to put his torrid pace from downtown in perspective:

The number two player on the list for most three pointers made so far this season is Damian Lillard with 54.

The NBA record for three point field goals in a season is 286 which was set by you guessed it Steph Curry last season. He also has the second most three pointers made in a season in NBA history with 272 in the 2012-13 NBA season.

Curry is currently on pace to hit 396 three pointers in the 2015-16 season which would break his own record by over a 100 three pointers made.

Any way you slice it, no player has ever been able to dominate the game of basketball offensively the way Curry has with the majority of his shots coming outside of the paint on a nightly basis. He is the one player that teams have to routinely trap off of a pick and roll 30 feet from the hoop for fear of him raining yet another three-pointer with his lightning quick trigger.

Here is a video from Sports Science a couple years ago which breaks down how incredibly fast Curry’s release is. He can routinely get off his shot in a mind-boggling 0.4 seconds:
