After winning their 3rd straight state championship, members of the Simeon Career Academy Wolverines took their sneakers off and left them on the hardwood as a sign of them “owning the court”. Coach Robert Smith had this to say:
They were trying to make a statement saying this was our court…to take off the shoes was out of character. I don’t think it was the time and place for that. We had already made our statement by winning three (state championships) in a row.
In the end 9 players were suspended which is all except for Jabari Parker and the seniors who are graduating.
Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose led the school to state titles in 2006 and 2007. So, why no Simeon Career Academy players wore the ‘Wolverine’ adiZero Rose 2 that Derrick Rose had adidas make inspired by their own school colors I’ll never know.
