Despite doing his best this past summer to help basketball fans forget about the lockout by playing in every Pro-Am league/game imaginable, Kevin Durant still managed to pick up a few critics along the way. Hey, you can’t please everyone. Not even KD can. First was the revelation that Durant had much more tattoos than anyone ever imagined. Whether fair or not, he was painted as the good guy of the League. The clean-cut, wholesome young man who would eventually become the face of the NBA. And what made him appeal to the masses even more was the fact that he didn’t have any ink. But then we found out that wasn’t the case. Not even close. I’m not saying tats mean you’re not a good person, but it’s no secret that corporate heads, sponsors, etc. can be turned off by them.
Then he was spotted wearing a Bulls hat which had Thunder faithful up in arms. Did it mean that he was unhappy in OKC? Was that a sign that he wanted to go to a major market to match his rising celebrity?
He also posted on his Twitter account that he was rooting for the University of Oklahoma football team to lose a few weeks ago. Even though he went to the University of Texas, a rival of Oklahoma, should he have stated that publicly? How would people in Oklahoma view that?
Well, KD explains it all. From his tats to his hats, he opens up like you rarely see athletes do. At the end of the day, he’s just a regular 23 year old:
