And you guys thought that LeBron James deserves to be vilified because he exercised his right as a free agent to the leave the Cavaliers and join the Heat. Apparently, Time Magazine disagrees with you. LeBron was just nominated by the magazine for the Person of the Year award.
President Barack Obama, Lady Gaga, Sara Palin, Jon Stewart, a once-trapped Chilean miner, LeBron James. That list doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but those are just some of the 25 people who are finalists for the 83 year old award.
LeBron seemed almost humbled and embarrassed by the nomination by saying, “That’s just crazy. What those guys did, the courage and what they stood for, I should be nowhere near that list. Nowhere near it.” Translation: “The last thing I need is more attention.”
You may ask yourself why LeBron is nominated for being Person of the Year, because if you’re like most you may think that what he “did” to Cavs fans is reprehensible and egregious. Well, this award doesn’t exactly praise anyone for worldly, selfless accomplishments. This award goes to a group or person who “has done the most to influence the events of the year.” Translation: “Who did people talk about the most this year?” For as many headlines that he found himself on this summer, if he doesn’t win he’ll at least make it on to the medal stand.
