Tuesday, the Phoenix Suns signed Jared Dudley to a multi-year extension. The deal signed on Tuesday could keep Dudley in a Suns uniform for the next five years. Since coming to the Suns from Charlotte in the middle of the 2008-2009 season, Dudley has established himself as one of Phoenix’s best long distance threats. Dudley also provides hard nosed defense and instant energy off of the Phoenix bench. Last season, Dudley averaged eight points, including 46 percent shooting from downtown.
In my opinion, he deserves every penny he will earn with his new contract extension. Dudley is one of my favorite players to watch in the NBA. In addition, he seems like one of the true good guys in the league. I have always had a soft-spot for players who earn their keep with hustle, defense, and an evident passion for the game. Dudley said one of the reasons he decided to sign the extension was the passionate Phoenix fans. “Having games sell out and having a great atmosphere to play in is second to none” said Dudley.
Now that Dudley knows the Suns want to keep him around for the next few seasons, it will be interesting to see if not having the pressure of playing for a new contract will elevate his game even more. When all is said and done, both the Suns and Dudley will be extremely happy they decided to stick with one another.
